I never finished. 7 years ago, I was working toward running every mile of every road in Darke County. I estimate I got to roughly 85-90%. Not bad!
Somewhere in there I decided to run a Marathon. I did it. I may even write a post about it someday, it’s something I will always remember. One downside though, training to run a marathon takes a toll on a “non-runner” runner. For a few days I was too sore to run at all, then I ran a few times to work the stiffness out, and THEN I got sick. I got really sick. I think I was sick for 2-3 months. Yuck.
So, what happened? After being sick all that time, I simply lost motivation after realizing how much fitness I had lost while sick. I’ve tried to start running again, but I can’t seem to stick with it. My weight has gone up like 50 lbs, I’ve been diagnosed with diabetes, and I’m north of 50 now. Double yuck.
I REALLY want to finish my project before I die, but I have to be able to jog 4-8 miles consistently before I can even start checking off roads again. I’m really not sure it’s worth the pain.
Should I finish, or let this dream die?
Edit – July 4th, 2023 – The dream is awake, and I have a plan. I’ve started. It involves a bike, learning how to swim properly, and a timeline of about 2.5 years. I’ll post something about it soon.
