A New Love?

July 15, 2022 by DarkeRunner 1 Comment

I don't know if I ever really loved running, but I have some really good memories and accomplished some lofty goals (and didn't quite hit the big one). Recently I've discovered Onewheeling... Oh. So. Fun. Clears the mind when it's troubled, and the isometric work on the legs is kind of good too!I haven't been on a snowboard in over 25 years, and no longer live near any … [Read more...]

Seven Years Later… Fat, Out of Shape, and Wishing I Would Make Myself Run Again

July 15, 2022 by DarkeRunner 1 Comment

I never finished. 7 years ago, I was working toward running every mile of every road in Darke County. I estimate I got to roughly 85-90%. Not bad! Somewhere in there I decided to run a Marathon. I did it. I may even write a post about it someday, it's something I will always remember. One downside though, training to run a marathon takes a toll on a "non-runner" runner. Darke County Parks Logo

I'm not sure how many people know about all the little parks in Darke County, Ohio,  but I've come across a couple already that I don't know I ever would have found except for running every road of the county will take me past all of them at some point. Worth Family Preserve and Drew Woods Preserve are a couple that are really kind of tucked out of the way and I'm guessing  a … [Read more...]

Ithica, Ohio – The Stop Sign Town

August 8, 2014 by DarkeRunner Leave a Comment

This was the longest run I've done to date, a little over 15 miles, and it included the tiny town/village/hamlet/whatever it is... of Ithica in southern Darke County. The run didn't hurt quite as bad as I expected it to, but I wish I would have brought a snack. Blood sugar was a little low at the end. The one thing about Ithica that really struck me was that there are … [Read more...]

Horrendously Hot on Holtzmuller Road

June 27, 2014 by DarkeRunner Leave a Comment

All I can say is YUCK. It was in the high 80's and it sucked the life out of me. VERY slow slog with a few walk breaks just because I really didn't feel like running anymore but neither did I feel like hitching a ride back to my car. Thankfully, Filbruns Pond in West Manchester was waiting for me when I got done. A tepid pond never felt quite so good! … [Read more...]

First things first, this was among the top favorite hikes I've ever done. If you ever have a chance to do it, get yourself in shape if you aren't … [Read More...]

Eidson Woods Preserve Trail – Darke County Parks

If there's one thing Darke County is seriously lacking in, it's trails! It's been fun discovering places I didn't know about, but sadly there … [Read More...]
